Chiang Mai University
At Chiang Mai University Science and Technology Park (CMU STeP), NTIS was introduced to a community-driven innovation ecosystem where university R&D is transformed into enterprise-grade solutions.
We explored how CMU STeP supports innovators through prototyping labs, commercialization units, and sector-specific testbeds across agri-food tech, health innovation, and creative industries. The park’s collaborative environment bridges university R&D with real-world industry needs, making it a fertile ground for pilot deployment and validation.
Discussions with the STeP team focused on the possibility of enabling ASEAN-wide technology testing pathways, particularly how startups in northern Thailand could test their solutions in Malaysia via the NTIS framework and vice versa.
As NTIS looks to scale regional facilitation, CMU STeP represents a key node in an emerging ASEAN network where cross-border testing, validation, and market access can become a reality for high-potential innovators.
